Nectar, from Latin word nektar or "drink of the gods" is defined as a beverage of fruit juice and pulp. Fruit nectars are very popular in Italy and throughout Europe. They have a much higher fruit content since they are made with fruit puree. Most European nectars are very thick and are often diluted with water, while bionaturæ® organic Fruit Nectars have been formulated to be delicious alone or with water added.
The fruit nectars are produced using hand-harvested heirloom variety fruits from select regions of Italy. The flavor of heirloom fruit is sweet, intense and true. The nectars combine fruit juice with fruit purée for a thicker, distinctly different flavor without added sugar or water. The resulting beverage tastes exactly like the fruit from which it is derived and is not too sweet or pulpy.

*Health Note: Two flavors of our nectars are believed to have medicinal properties. Bilberry, found also in our Wildberry nectar, is a wild blueberry that cannot be cultivated and only grows wild at high elevations. Bilberry jam was given to Royal Air Force pilots who flew at night during WWII as they noticed it improved their night vision. European studies confirm bilberry's incredible effect on vision. Bilberry is also helpful in preventing and treating urinary tract infections and is an anti-inflammatory herb. Although it has not been proven in clinical trials, Sour Cherry juice is believed to be beneficial in the treatment of arthritis and gout. Sour Cherries contain significant levels of vitamin C, vitamin A and alpha-linolenic acid as well as traces of vitamin E, betacarotene, folacin and thiamine and the antioxidant quercitin.
